45% Petrol Vehicle Owners Ready To Take Legal Action Over E20 Fuel Damage

A significant number of petrol vehicle owners are prepared to take legal action if they believe E20 fuel causes damage to their vehicles, according to a LocalCircles survey. The survey, conducted among more than 22,000 vehicle owners across 316 districts, found that 45% of respondents would approach consumer courts or pursue other legal remedies to seek compensation. The findings come shortly after the Raipur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed Maruti Suzuki and its dealer to replace a Grand Vitara or refund the customer approximately ₹20.5 lakh, along with ₹1 lakh as compensation, in a case involving alleged E20-related engine issues. The commission observed that consumers cannot be expected to avoid E20 fuel when it has become the dominant petrol blend at fuel stations. The survey also highlights growing concerns among owners of older petrol vehicles as India continues its transition toward wider adoption of E20 ethanol-blended petrol.
