A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district has sparked outrage after a pregnant woman died following an alleged assault by a police officer during her husband’s arrest, prompting the immediate suspension of six police personnel.
The Incident
The incident occurred late Sunday night in Labhaua village, in the Shikohabad area of Firozabad. According to the victim’s family, Sub-Inspector Dharmpal Singh arrived at the home of Gaurav, 32, along with a police team around 11:45 PM to arrest him in connection with a theft case.

The family alleges that when Gaurav’s pregnant wife, 28-year-old Anjali, pleaded with the police not to take her husband away, Singh kicked her in the abdomen, causing her to fall to the ground. Police then proceeded to take Gaurav into custody.
Her Condition Deteriorates
Following the alleged assault, Anjali’s condition began to deteriorate. She was admitted to a hospital in Shikohabad, where she gave birth to a baby boy on Monday morning. However, her health worsened significantly after the delivery, prompting her transfer to a private hospital in Firozabad, where doctors ultimately declared her dead.
According to the family, police released Gaurav from custody only after learning of Anjali’s death.
Newborn in Critical Condition
The couple’s newborn son is currently in critical condition and has been referred to a hospital in Agra for further treatment, according to the family.
Police Response
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ravi Shankar Prasad confirmed that Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe suspended six police personnel with immediate effect on Monday, citing negligence. Those suspended include Sub-Inspectors Dharmpal Singh and Satyapal Singh, Head Constables Mohan Singh and Arvind Kumar, and Constables Bhavtosh Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar.

Officials confirmed that Anjali’s post-mortem examination was conducted late at night, and her last rites were performed the same night, with a large police force deployed during the proceedings as a precautionary measure.
Community Reaction
Following news of Anjali’s death, villagers gathered at the local police station and created a strong protest, questioning the circumstances of the police action and demanding accountability from those involved.
What’s Next
The case remains under investigation, with authorities yet to release further details on potential charges against the suspended officers. The incident has reignited broader concerns about police conduct during arrests, particularly regarding the treatment of family members — especially pregnant women — who are present but not the subject of the arrest itself.
As the investigation continues, the community awaits further clarity on accountability measures, while Anjali’s newborn son remains in critical condition, fighting for his life in Agra.
This is a developing story, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
