As Nepal reels from one of its deadliest natural disasters in recent years, Bollywood actor and well-known philanthropist Sonu Sood has stepped forward to offer support to the affected communities, once again living up to his reputation as a real-life humanitarian.
The Disaster
On August 26, 2026, a devastating flash flood and mudslide struck along the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, near the Nepal-Tibet border. The disaster has claimed at least 160 lives, with hundreds more, including foreign nationals and security personnel, still reported missing. The flood caused massive infrastructure damage, destroying nine hydropower projects, several commercial bank branches, motorable bridges, and nearly 40 kilometres of highway.

Sonu Sood’s Response
Taking to social media, Sood shared a heartfelt message of solidarity: “Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter, and the strength to help you rebuild.” His message quickly resonated across social media, drawing appreciation from Nepali citizens and artists alike, with some calling him a “real hero” for stepping up during the crisis. Reports also suggest he may personally travel to Nepal to support relief and recovery efforts on the ground.
Part of a Larger Wave of Support
Sood wasn’t alone in showing solidarity — several other Bollywood celebrities, including Nepal-born actress Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kangana Ranaut, also expressed grief and support for the affected families. Meanwhile, the Indian government has begun mobilising humanitarian assistance, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirming that India’s HADR and medical assistance has already reached Kathmandu, alongside 10 tonnes of relief material.
A Familiar Pattern of Action
This isn’t new territory for Sood, who has consistently shown up during crises — from helping stranded migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic to supporting flood-affected farmers in Punjab and families impacted by the Uttarakhand glacier burst.
