Yash’s much-anticipated gangster drama Toxic has delivered one of the biggest opening days in recent Indian cinema history, sending box office trackers into a frenzy on its very first day in theatres.

Released on August 26 to coincide with the Onam holiday, Toxic has stormed past several major benchmarks within hours of its release. According to live data from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected ₹91.91 crore net in India on Day 1, with its gross collection touching ₹108.45 crore. The film is currently running across a massive 21,166 shows nationwide, with an overall occupancy of 51.6% — numbers that place it firmly among the biggest openers of the year.
What makes this even more remarkable is the trajectory of the day. Toxic reportedly crossed ₹31.76 crore by noon itself, before accelerating through the afternoon and evening shows to breach the ₹90 crore mark by 8 PM. With night shows yet to be fully tallied, trade analysts believe the film could still inch closer to, or even cross, the elusive ₹100 crore mark on opening day alone.

Beating the Biggest Names in the Business
